In 2013, my 15 -year-old started having seizures. Like most teenagers, he enjoyed going to parties and socializing. A significant aspect of these parties was the consumption of alcohol, and my son was unable to drink due to his seizures.
As a mother, it was instinctive to make him happy by assuring him that alcohol wasn't necessary for him to enjoy himself. It IMMEDIATELY dawned on me how hypocritical I was being as I found myself frequently drinking wine.
To prove a point to my son, I stopped drinking for 3 months. The time went by quicker than I anticipated, and I decided to remain sober for another 3 months. Following 6 months of sobriety, I found myself happier than I had been in a while. What started as an example for my son became something I decided to commit to for my son and myself.
It's now 2021, and I am proud to announce that I've been sober for 8 years. Sobriety has changed my outlook on life for the better and has improved both my physical and mental well-being.
My goal is to demonstrate that a SOBER LIFE is an exhilarating one, and anyone can reap the benefits.
Committed to bettering our community while raising awareness around the benefits of sobriety, a portion of the proceeds from Sober Is The New Cool merchandise will be donated to the Douglas Foundation.
Our go-to exercise is the "I AM..." I ask that the person place their hand on their heart, and repeat one positive word I send morning and night. This reminds them of the qualities they forget that they possess, to rebuild their self-esteem.
IF WE CAN STOP 1 PERSON FROM DRUGS or ALCOHOL FOR 1 DAY,
1 WEEK, 1 MONTH or 1 YEAR WE WILL HAVE ACHIEVED SUCCESS & MAYBE EVEN SAVED A LIFE IN THE PROCESS
