A Mother's Perspective to Wellness
.avif)
In 2013, my 15 -year-old started having seizures. Like most teenagers, he enjoyed going to parties and socializing. A significant aspect of these parties was the consumption of alcohol, and my son was unable to drink due to his seizures.
As a mother, it was instinctive to make him happy by assuring him that alcohol wasn't necessary for him to enjoy himself. It IMMEDIATELY dawned on me how hypocritical I was being as I found myself frequently drinking wine.
To prove a point to my son, I stopped drinking for 3 months. The time went by quicker than I anticipated, and I decided to remain sober for another 3 months. Following 6 months of sobriety, I found myself happier than I had been in a while. What started as an example for my son became something I decided to commit to for my son and myself.
It's now 2026, and I am proud to announce that I've been sober for 13 years. Sobriety has changed my outlook on life for the better and has improved both my physical and mental well-being. My goal is to demonstrate that a SOBER LIFE is an exhilarating one, and anyone can reap the benefits.
My mission with Sober is the New Cool is to share this message of hope and healing. We're all recovering from something, and every step towards wellness matters. By sharing our stories, we can break down stigmas and support one another in our individual journeys.
